Burger Week Concludes Amid Restaurant Break-Ins and Food Trends

The much-anticipated annual event, Le Burger Week, comes to a close this Sunday, with local restaurants vying for top honors in the burger competition. Currently, three of the five leading burgers are from Manitoba, with the frontrunner being The Taste of the Interlake at Carlo’s Cucina in Gimli. The results will be announced early next week, revealing whether Carlo Guzzi and his wife Marnie can secure their fourth national title in five years.
Other notable burgers making the top five include Fatter Than The Average Boy from Jonesy’s in Birds Hill and The Wrangler at PVG Street Eats located on Wall Street in Winnipeg. Over 160 restaurants across Manitoba have participated this year, showcasing their unique creations and contributing to the vibrant food scene in the region.
As the celebration of burgers unfolds, the city faces challenges with a rising number of restaurant break-ins. The latest victim is Red Top Drive Inn, which has suffered multiple thefts in recent months. In each incident, thieves have smashed windows and stolen tables, highlighting the precarious nature of restaurant profitability. With tight margins, such losses can quickly impact a business’s financial stability. Restaurant owners and patrons are urged to support their favorite establishments during these difficult times.
In a different culinary trend, KFC Canada has launched a limited-time pickle-themed menu, capitalizing on the growing popularity of pickles. The Pickle Sandwich features triple-breaded fried chicken, mayonnaise, bread and butter pickles, and dill seasoning. Additionally, Loaded Pickle Fries combine classic fries with crispy pickles and dill, while Fried Pickle Chips and Pickle Pepsi round out the quirky offering.
In entertainment news, music icon Dolly Parton shared her favorite Taco Bell order during a recent interview. The 79-year-old singer revealed that she enjoys a Taco Supreme with sour cream wrapped in a soft shell. Parton, who has launched her own line of frozen meals and a cookbook, reflects on her upbringing in a large family where cooking was a necessity.
On the sweet side of life, Snickers has collaborated with Josh Allen, quarterback for the Buffalo Bills, to introduce three limited-edition sauces for the football season. The new flavors—Caramel Buffalo, Chocolate Barbecue, and Peanut Teriyaki—combine traditional Snickers ingredients with savory elements. Fans can find these unique sauces available for purchase online.
As Winnipeg embraces new food trends and faces the challenges of restaurant thefts, the community continues to celebrate its culinary diversity. With events like Le Burger Week bringing attention to local talent, there is hope for a continued flourishing of the restaurant scene in Manitoba.
