Calgary Stampeders Unveil 2025 CFL Award Nominees Amid Stellar Season
The Calgary Stampeders have announced their nominees for the 2025 Canadian Football League (CFL) Awards, showcasing standout performances from several players throughout the season. Running back Dedrick Mills leads the league with 1,340 rushing yards and is tied for the most rushing touchdowns with 11. Mills has been nominated for the CFL’s Most Outstanding Player award, expressing his gratitude for the support of his teammates and coaching staff.
“I’m just thankful for my teammates, thankful for the coaches and the staff, everyone that voted for me – and I’m just happy to be here,” Mills said.
Standout Performances Define the Season
Another highlight for the Stampeders is Jalen Philpot, a fourth-year slotback having a breakthrough season with a career-high 61 receptions for 831 yards and three touchdowns. Philpot is nominated for the Most Outstanding Canadian award. He noted his growing comfort within the team’s offense and with quarterback Vernon Adams.
“I’m starting to play like I feel I should’ve been playing early on in my career,” Philpot remarked.
Defensive lineman Clarence Hicks, in just his second year, has made a significant impact on the field, ranking second in the league with 11 quarterback sacks. His nomination for the Most Outstanding Defensive Lineman award came as a pleasant surprise.
“I said all year, we had at least six people on defense that could be Defensive Player of the Year for this team, so me getting it means a lot,” Hicks stated.
Rookies and Veterans Shine
Rookie offensive lineman Chris Fortin stepped up to the starting center position in week 2 following Bryce Bell‘s season-ending injury. Fortin is recognized as a nominee for the Most Outstanding Rookie award. He expressed pride in his performance and preparation throughout the season.
“It just shows the work I’m doing all year and my preparation for the season, and the work I’m doing with the whole Stampeder offensive line and Zach Williams, it’s just been great. But the job is not done,” Fortin said.
Williams himself is nominated for the Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman, while rookie punter Mark Vassett has been chosen for the Most Outstanding Special Teams Player award.
As the Stampeders prepare to finalize their regular season, they will face off against the Edmonton Elks on November 3, 2025. This game serves as both a closing chapter for the regular season and an opportunity to showcase their talent ahead of the awards ceremony.
