Cantigny Unveils Enchanting Holiday Experience for 2023 Season
The historic grounds of Cantigny in Wheaton will transform into a dazzling winter wonderland as Christmas at Cantigny makes its return this Friday, ushering in its third season of festive activities. The event promises a spectacular blend of light displays, ice skating, and dining experiences, set to brighten the holiday season through early January.
New Attractions and Family Traditions
According to Gayln Piper, director of programs at Cantigny, the venue has embraced the holiday spirit with fresh and engaging offerings each year, despite entering the holiday events scene later than others. “We’re excited that this has become people’s family tradition,” Piper shared. This year, the event is expected to be “bigger, brighter, and more magical than ever.”
A central feature of the event is a half-mile path that is fully accessible for visitors using wheelchairs and strollers. This illuminated trail leads guests through enchanting gardens, where lights dance to the sounds of holiday music resonating throughout the grounds. Notably, a new northern lights installation in the rose garden draws inspiration from the stunning aurora borealis.
Attendees can look forward to specially designed photo spots perfect for portraits and selfies, alongside three cocoa and snack stations strategically placed along the light path to provide warm refreshments. Inside the historic McCormick House, the first floor will showcase an array of poinsettias, vintage decorations, and a towering 20-foot Christmas tree, enhancing the home’s historic charm.
Exclusive Dining and Entertainment Options
For those seeking a more refined experience, the Noël Lounge on the upper floor offers a selection of chef-crafted small plates, curated wines, and craft cocktails in a cozy atmosphere tailored for adults. Reservations for the lounge are highly recommended and can be made online.
Adding to the festive spirit, “A Wickedly Popular Christmas” light show, themed around songs from “Wicked” and “The Wizard of Oz,” will run every Sunday until December 14. Following the holiday season, guests can enjoy “Lights, Camera, Action!” from December 26 to January 4, featuring a soundtrack of popular movie scores and sing-along favorites.
The outdoor ice skating rink will also return this season, with admission set at $7 and skate rentals available for $3. After skating, visitors can warm up in the heated hospitality tent or reserve a private Cocoa Cabana, complete with fire tables, heated seating, and a full food and beverage service starting at $125.
As the holiday season approaches, Cantigny stands ready to offer a memorable experience filled with joy, light, and community spirit, inviting families and friends to create lasting memories together.
