Chilliwack Roller Derby League Invites New Skaters to Join

A local roller derby league in Chilliwack is on the lookout for new members, offering opportunities even for those who have never skated before. The NWO Roller Derby Association is hosting two ‘learn to skate’ orientation days on September 3, 2023, and September 7, 2023. These sessions are designed to introduce newcomers to the basics of roller skating and the sport of roller derby.
Organizers have emphasized that no prior experience is necessary. “Think you can’t skate? No worries, our expert coaches will teach you everything from scratch, even if you’ve never stepped foot in skates,” they stated. The league aims to demonstrate that roller derby can be both fun and accessible to everyone aged 18 and older.
Program Details and Schedule
The 12-week program will cover all fundamental skills required for roller skating and roller derby. Sessions will take place at the Landing Sports Centre, located at 45530 Spadina Ave.. The orientation days are scheduled for Wednesday, September 3, from 18:45 to 20:45 and Sunday, September 7, from 10:15 to 12:15.
Participants who may not have their own gear need not worry, as the league offers loaner equipment to ensure everyone can join in. Coaches emphasize the program’s combination of excitement and exercise, stating, “You’ll join an adventure that’s equal parts excitement and exercise, and discover what you’re truly capable of. You’ll meet amazing people, stay active, and tap into your hidden athlete.”
Regular practice sessions will be held twice a week at the same location, specifically on Wednesdays from 18:45 to 20:45 and Sundays from 10:15 to 12:15. It is perfectly acceptable for participants to attend only once a week, as the coaching staff will provide personalized attention to all skaters.
