Flagg Township Museum Hosts Retro ‘Cut the Square’ Event on Sept. 12

The Flagg Township Museum in Rochelle is set to host its nostalgic event, “Cut the Square,” on September 12, from 4 to 8 p.m. This event invites attendees to relive their high school memories of cruising the loop and socializing with friends along the iconic routes of Lincoln Highway, Seventh Street, Illinois Route 38, and Lincoln Avenue.
The Hub City Motor Club will feature a display of classic cars at the museum, enhancing the atmosphere of the event. Participants will have the chance to see these vehicles up close and experience the unique vibe of the community as they cruise around Rochelle.
Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities at the museum, including food trucks offering diverse dining options and music provided by DJ Kelly Millburn, sponsored by the city of Rochelle. Guests are encouraged to embrace the retro theme, with opportunities to don poodle skirts and dance in the parking lot. A cardboard cutout of Joan Allen, a native of Rochelle and acclaimed actor, will be available for photographs, adding a special touch to the event.
In addition to these activities, attendees can engage in games such as checkers or Hula Hooping. The museum will also showcase the Truman Kester Camera Collection, entitled “Connecting Through a Lens,” located in the Cabinet of Curiosities. This collection highlights the rich history and culture of Flagg Township.
The Flagg Township Historical Society and Museum aims to promote interest in local history through various educational initiatives. Their mission focuses on research, collection, and preservation for the benefit of current and future generations.
“Cut the Square” promises to be an enjoyable evening filled with community spirit and nostalgia. Whether you are reminiscing about the past or creating new memories, this event is an opportunity to connect with the local culture and celebrate Flagg Township’s vibrant history.
