High Tea & High Fashion Event to Support Affordable Housing

An upcoming event combining high tea and high fashion is set to take place on October 5, 2023, in Surrey, with the aim of raising funds for affordable family housing in the South Fraser Valley. Organized by Options Community Services, the High Tea & High Fashion event will feature a fusion of culinary delights and entertainment, all while addressing the pressing need for housing in the region.
Ginny Hasselfield, Director of Development at Options Community Services, highlighted the organization’s commitment to affordable housing. Following the successful completion of the Habitat @81st project, which included 100 units of mixed-income apartments in the Newton area, the focus has now shifted to a new initiative in north Surrey. “The need is acute – our clients have told us this is their No. 1 issue, so we’re answering that need,” Hasselfield stated.
Options Community Services has been a pillar in the community for over 50 years, employing more than 600 staff to provide various services, including employment support and programs for women escaping violence. With rising housing costs presenting challenges for many families, the organization is prioritizing housing in its mission. The pre-development costs for new housing projects are substantial, estimated at around $500,000, necessitating creative fundraising efforts.
Event Details and Entertainment Lineup
The High Tea & High Fashion event promises an afternoon filled with delightful experiences. Co-hosted by Nira Arora and auctioneer Howard Blank, guests are encouraged to dress elegantly for the occasion at the Empress Palace Ballroom. The festivities will commence with a champagne reception from 1 to 2 p.m., followed by a high tea service.
Attendees can look forward to a fashion show featuring garments from Sandeep Chohan’s Art of Thread, known for blending traditional Indian craftsmanship with modern aesthetics. Additionally, performances by Randy Charach, a renowned mentalist and comedian, will provide interactive entertainment described as “non-stop fun” by major publications.
The afternoon will conclude with a showcase of designs from Armaan designer Davi Bains-Gill, presenting custom gowns and couture attire. Tickets for the event are priced at $150 each, or $1,200 for a table of eight, available for purchase at highfashionandhightea.ca.
Community Involvement and Sponsorship
The High Tea & High Fashion event serves as an opportunity for the community to engage in meaningful contributions toward addressing housing challenges. Hasselfield expressed gratitude for the support received thus far, acknowledging sponsors including Schmunk, Gatt, Smith & Associates, and various local businesses.
“Non-profits don’t have extra funds or in-house expertise for building like this, so we have to contract out,” Hasselfield explained. The collaborative efforts aim to generate funds to support the construction of 70 units of affordable family housing.
For those interested in participating or sponsoring the event, further information can be obtained by contacting Ginny Hasselfield at 604-813-6409. This initiative not only highlights the importance of community involvement but also showcases the dedication of Options Community Services in tackling urgent housing needs.
