Monsignor Fiolleau Honored with Provincial Award for Community Service

Monsignor Maurice Fiolleau will be recognized for his extensive service to the community during the Saskatchewan Catholic School Board Association’s (SCSBA) Annual General Meeting Awards Banquet, scheduled for Saturday in Moose Jaw. He will receive the prestigious Appreciation Award, nominated by the Prince Albert Roman Catholic Separate School Board of Education in September 2023.
The SCSBA Appreciation Award is presented annually to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional commitment and contributions to Catholic education. Board Chair Suzanne Stubbs expressed gratitude for Monsignor Fiolleau’s impact, stating, “We have been so fortunate to have Msgr. Maurice serve our Catholic educational community. He has joyfully embraced his vocational call in many ways. He is a very deserving individual of this prestigious award.”
Since 1991, Monsignor Fiolleau has played a vital role in the division’s schools and the broader community. His positions have included Deacon, Priest, Vicar, Pastoral Assistant, and Chaplain, among others. The board noted the significant influence of his ministry, describing it as a “constant source of strength, encouragement, and inspiration to all whom he serves.” Recently, he was honored with the title of Monsignor by papal decree, reflecting his dedicated service and faithful witness.
Monsignor Fiolleau’s contributions extend beyond the classroom. He has been actively involved in various committees, including Sacramental Preparation, Diocesan Pastoral Council Coordinator, and Pilgrimage Director at the St. Laurent Shrine. His role as Chaplain has seen him minister at several healthcare facilities, including the Victoria Hospital and Holy Family Hospital, while also serving as Co-Chaplain of the Catholic Women’s League.
His dedication to the educational community is evident in his work with over 3,000 students, 350 staff, and countless families. “Monsignor is a faithful companion to staff, families, and parishioners across Prince Albert,” the board stated. His efforts include visiting classrooms, supporting reconciliation services, and celebrating numerous youth liturgies such as graduations and school masses. He has also shown support for Indigenous ceremonies, attending events like powwows to foster community relationships.
The recognition of Monsignor Fiolleau is a testament to the profound impact one individual can have on education and community service. His leadership and commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment continue to resonate throughout the region.
