Morris Hospital has recognized Julie Robbins, an ultrasound technologist from Shorewood, as its Fire Starter of the Month for November. This accolade highlights Robbins’ nearly three decades of dedicated service to the hospital and her unwavering commitment to patient care.

According to a news release issued by Morris Hospital, Robbins discovered her passion for helping others early in life. Initially unsure of her career path, her journey took a pivotal turn when she encountered a book at Joliet Junior College that detailed various medical careers. This exposure to the field of ultrasound ignited her interest and set her on a trajectory that would culminate in 29 years of impactful service.

Over her extensive tenure at Morris Hospital, Robbins has made significant contributions to both patients and colleagues. Erin Kotowski, assistant vice president of ambulatory services at Morris Hospital, emphasized Robbins’ integral role in the Obstetrics & Gynecology Specialists office. “Julie is a staple in our office and has given so much to the organization over the last 28 years, including training all of our new ultrasound techs,” Kotowski stated. “She continues to make a positive impact on her coworkers and patients, so much that patients will specifically ask for her when they schedule their appointments. She is beloved by everyone she interacts with.”

Robbins’ journey to Morris Hospital began while she was employed at Holy Cross Hospital in Chicago. It was there that she met Dr. Douglas Toussaint, an obstetrician and gynecologist who worked in the labor and delivery unit. His enthusiasm and compassion left a lasting impression on Robbins, motivating her to join his team at Morris Hospital when a position became available.

In nominating Robbins for the award, Michelle Dennett, a clinic licensed practical nurse, highlighted her exceptional qualities. “Julie makes everyone around her want to be better and encourages everyone to strive for excellence,” Dennett remarked. “She goes above and beyond for her patients and always delivers excellent care. She is a positive influence on everyone she meets.”

Robbins herself expressed that the most rewarding aspect of her job is the relationships she builds with both patients and colleagues. “I love working with people who want to make a difference in the lives of our patients,” Robbins said. “When I am in a room with a patient, my mission is to make them feel comfortable in what can be an uncomfortable situation. I enjoy getting to know my patients and helping them have a positive experience.”

Robbins’ recognition as Fire Starter of the Month serves not only as a testament to her hard work but also highlights the vital role healthcare professionals play in enhancing patient experiences. Her commitment to excellence in patient care continues to inspire those around her at Morris Hospital.
