Morris Senior Hannah Linn Crowned Athlete of the Week

Morris senior volleyball player Hannah Linn has been named the Athlete of the Week after receiving an impressive 33 votes in a recent poll. Linn’s popularity surpassed that of fellow athletes, including Morris cross country runner Cuyler Swanson, who garnered 20 votes, Coal City soccer player Carter Hollis with nine votes, and Minooka volleyball player Kendall Kozak, who received five votes.
Passion for Volleyball and Team Spirit
In an interview, Linn shared her journey in volleyball, which began in sixth grade at Saratoga. “I also run track and field,” she stated. “I am in all the jumps and some sprint relays. Basically wherever they need me. My best event is the triple jump.” Her versatility as an athlete showcases her dedication and adaptability in both sports.
When asked what she enjoys most about volleyball, Linn emphasized the game’s essence and the camaraderie within her team. “I like just the idea of the game, as well as the team atmosphere,” she explained. “I’ve been playing with most of the girls on this team for what seems like forever. We all play together in club and school, so that really makes it enjoyable.”
Balancing Academics and Athletics
Academics play a significant role in Linn’s life as well. Her favorite subject is Health Occupations, a class she attends at the Greater Aurora Vocational Center (GAVC). “I like pretty much anything that has to do with science,” she said, reflecting her interest in the field.
As an athlete, nutrition is also important. Linn revealed her favorite pre-game meal: “When we go to road games, we always have Corleone’s on the bus, so I would say that. It varies what I get, though. Sometimes a gondola, sometimes a cheese please, sometimes pasta salad.” Such choices highlight how she prepares for competition.
Linn’s personal interests extend to entertainment as well. When asked about her favorite movie, she admitted, “I know it’s cheesy, but The Notebook.” This lightheartedness complements her competitive spirit.
Before matches, Linn participates in a unique pre-game ritual. “This year, either we all listen to music together or we don’t play any music and just talk to each other,” she explained. This approach fosters team communication, allowing them to discuss both the upcoming match and other topics, strengthening their bond as teammates.
Linn’s achievements and her passion for volleyball make her a deserving recipient of this recognition. As she continues to excel in both sports and academics, her story serves as an inspiration to her peers at Morris Community High School.
