Oswego Co-Op’s Alli Wiertel Shines at Plainfield East Invite

Oswego Co-Op’s Alli Wiertel delivered an impressive performance at the Plainfield East Invite, shooting a remarkable 70 to secure medalist honors. Her efforts helped the team achieve a third-place finish at Naperbrook Golf Course. The team’s total score was 338, with Kendall Grant contributing an 81, followed by Annabelle Williams with a 91 and Giselle Resendez with a 96. The top team, Lincoln-Way East, finished with a score of 317.

In addition to Oswego Co-Op’s success, Yorkville finished fifth, recording a total score of 392. Elaina Newman and Molly Martinez each shot 97, while Janae Larson rounded out the scoring with a 98.

Cross Country and Volleyball Highlights

In cross country, Sunny Weber from Sandwich claimed victory in the Class 1A girls race at the First to the Finish Invite in Peoria, finishing with a time of 16:18.70.

The Newark girls’ volleyball team, boasting a record of 13-3, participated in the Bullet Invite at Williamsville, where they secured a seventh-place finish among 16 teams. Newark achieved victories against Monticello with scores of 25-23 and 25-22, as well as against Macomb in a close match, winning 25-21, 15-25, 15-13. Despite strong performances, they lost to Rochester 25-16, 25-16 in pool play, and subsequently fell to Hartsburg-Emden 25-11, 25-16 in bracket play. However, they redeemed themselves against Lena-Winslow, winning 25-21, 23-25, 15-6.

Notably, Rylie Carlson was named all-tournament, contributing significantly with 30 kills, 32 digs, and five aces. Other notable players included Zoey Carlson with 24 kills and nine blocks, Heather Buhle with 24 kills and 35 digs, while Morgen Hergenhan recorded 58 digs and Taylor Jeffers registered 51 assists, alongside 20 digs and six aces.

Additional Sports Updates

In flag football, Yorkville Tri secured a victory against Hersey with a score of 19-7. The team’s success was bolstered by two fourth-quarter touchdowns from Kayla Kersting, following an earlier loss to Willowbrook 26-0.

Meanwhile, in boys’ soccer, Oswego East triumphed over Andrew with a score of 3-1 during the opening match of the Plano Classic.

In boys’ golf, Plano finished in 11th place at the Aurora Central Catholic Invite, posting a team score of 386. Brandon Ramos led the team with a low round of 85.

Lastly, Yorkville concluded day two of the Redbird Classic at Weaver Ridge with a score of 329. Graham Martinson recorded a score of 77, followed by Ian Saar with 81, Robert Hren with 85, and Max Homerding with 86.
