Sault Ste. Marie Celebrates 10 Years of Rockin’ Out for Recovery

The Sault Ste. Marie Drug Strategy Committee is hosting the tenth annual Rockin’ Out for Recovery event on October 3, 2023, from 17:00 to 19:00 at the Roberta Bondar Pavilion. This free community event aims to unite individuals, families, service providers, and allies to celebrate recovery, enhance awareness, and strengthen connections within the Sault Ste. Marie community.
Celebrating a decade of collective action, this year’s Rockin’ Out for Recovery emphasizes the resilience of individuals living in recovery. It also highlights the ongoing efforts to combat the stigma surrounding drug use and mental health challenges. “As a community, recovery is something that we all take part in — it’s about hope, healing, and supporting one another,” stated Hilary Gordon, co-chair of the Sault Ste. Marie Drug Strategy Committee. “Rockin’ Out for Recovery is not only about raising awareness of the challenges we face as a community but also celebrating the courage, resilience, and joy that recovery brings.”
Event Highlights and Community Impact
This year’s event promises an engaging evening filled with live music, cultural performances, and networking opportunities. Local organizations and community partners will showcase their work, reinforcing the importance of support and recovery in the community. Attendees can look forward to special remarks from Mayor Matthew Shoemaker, who will join guest speakers in sharing inspiring messages that celebrate culture, healing, and recovery.
The Rockin’ Out for Recovery event is more than an annual gathering; it embodies Sault Ste. Marie’s commitment to reducing stigma, supporting recovery, and fostering a compassionate community. The Sault Ste. Marie Drug Strategy Committee operates as a collaborative initiative, dedicated to decreasing the harms associated with substance use and promoting pathways to recovery. The committee brings together health providers, social service agencies, individuals with lived experience, and community partners to enhance prevention and treatment services.
According to the committee’s official statement, “The goal is to build a healthier, more compassionate community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.”
As the event approaches, the community is invited to join in this celebration of strength and resilience, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing journey toward recovery and support for all.
