United Methodist Church of Geneva Hosts Advent Spiral Walk on December 21

The United Methodist Church of Geneva will host a candlelit Advent Spiral Walk on December 21, inviting the community to engage in a reflective experience. This free event will take place from 14:00 to 19:00 in Fellowship Hall, located at 211 Hamilton St.

Participants will follow a quiet path reminiscent of a labyrinth, featuring three reflection stations that symbolize waiting, releasing, and lifting. Each station will provide scripture and poetry for prayer, contemplation, and personal response.

Pastor Heather Connor shared the significance of this event in a recent news release. She noted, “As December progresses and daylight grows scarce, many of us feel the need to follow the rhythms of nature and slow down. This slowing allows us to listen more closely and tend to the quiet places within ourselves.” The Advent Spiral is described by Connor as an invitation to embrace an ancient practice of reflection and hope.

The Advent Spiral is rooted in the Waldorf tradition, emphasizing how seasonal festivals help individuals, both children and adults, experience time not as something hurried but as an opportunity to engage fully with the body, senses, and the natural world. Connor elaborated, “Marking seasonal change helps participants notice the movement of the sun and the deep rhythms of the earth, while cultivating gratitude for creation, community, and the quiet light that dwells within each of us.”

In addition to the Advent Spiral Walk, the church will offer several other festive services during the holiday season. A classic candlelight service is scheduled for 19:00 on December 23, and a “Big, Bright, Brass Christmas Eve” program will take place at 16:00 on December 24. For those seeking a more relaxed atmosphere, the church will also host “Comfy and Cozy Carols” at 21:00 on December 24.
