The United Way Eastern Ontario has launched its annual fundraising initiative, the Ultimate Burger Battle, which runs from November 1 to 30, 2023. This culinary challenge brings together 20 local restaurants across eastern Ontario to raise funds for various community programs, including youth initiatives and mental health support.

Participating restaurants will donate $2 from every burger sold during the event to the United Way, reinforcing the organization’s mission to create safe and connected communities. “The United Way Ultimate Burger Battle brings the community together through a very delicious meal,” said Lorena Costa, a representative from United Way Eastern Ontario, during an interview with CTV Your Morning Ottawa. “We need to find more creative ways to bring people together and also, at the same time, support the community.”

The event features local establishments from Ottawa, Prescott Russell, Lanark County, and Renfrew County. Costa emphasized that fundraisers like this are essential for achieving the United Way’s objectives. By supporting local businesses, the initiative also fosters a sense of community spirit.

How the Ultimate Burger Battle Works

To participate, community members can visit the United Way’s website to find a list of restaurants involved in the Ultimate Burger Battle. They can purchase the signature burgers offered by these restaurants and then vote for their favorite. This interactive aspect not only encourages patronage of local eateries but also engages the public in the fundraising process.

The Royal Oak is among the participating restaurants, and Jason Miller, a representative from the restaurant, shared his thoughts on the initiative. “It’s something the Royal Oak has been involved with over the last 45 years in our community. It’s a pillar of our success in that time,” he stated. Miller added that events like the Ultimate Burger Battle allow the restaurant to express creativity while giving back, highlighting the importance of community partnerships.

“It was an opportunity for us to flex the creative muscles that we have and use those creative muscles to give back to the community,” Miller explained. The Royal Oak aims to continue its long-standing tradition of support through engaging events like this one.

As the Ultimate Burger Battle unfolds, diners are encouraged to explore the diverse offerings at participating restaurants and contribute to a cause that benefits the entire region. More information, including a full list of participating locations, can be found on the United Way’s website.
