Woodstock North Dominates Rival Woodstock in 49-0 Showdown
Woodstock North secured a commanding victory over crosstown rivals Woodstock with a decisive score of 49-0 on October 27, 2023. The Thunder’s impressive performance not only solidified their playoff position but also showcased individual achievements, notably that of senior running back David Randecker, who set a new school rushing record during the game.
The Thunder’s offense was prolific, scoring a touchdown on every possession. All of the team’s touchdowns came from their rushing attack, exemplifying their dominance on the field. Randecker led the charge with 168 yards on just 16 carries, contributing two touchdowns. With this performance, he surpassed the previous record of 2,375 career rushing yards, cementing his place in the school’s history.
“I want to thank my teammates and my coaches for being willing to trust me with the ball,” Randecker remarked after the game, reflecting on his journey to this achievement.
Quarterback Parker Halihan also played a pivotal role, adding three touchdowns of his own with runs of 17, 16, and 1 yard. “We came in here focused and ready to go,” Halihan stated. “We had a great week of practice, so we felt good coming into tonight.”
The Thunder’s balanced offensive attack was further complemented by Braden Schnake, who scored on an 11-yard run, and George Kingos, who added a touchdown with a 35-yard dash. Each score highlighted the Thunder’s ability to capitalize on their strengths during the game.
Defensively, Woodstock North showcased an equally impressive performance, shutting out their rivals entirely. The Thunder limited Woodstock to just 37 rushing yards and 102 passing yards. Defensive backs Conlan Leese and Jr Fadahunsi each recorded an interception, while Aaron Christofalos recovered a fumble. Randecker also contributed defensively with a tackle-for-loss, ensuring that Woodstock struggled to find their rhythm.
“Our defense capitalized on some opportunities,” Randecker noted. “Overall, our defense played great.”
With the playoffs approaching, Woodstock North is poised for a strong performance in the upcoming matches. They will discover their opponent on Saturday, and Halihan expressed confidence in the team’s preparation: “We know that it will be a difficult game no matter who we play next week, so we need to keep working hard at practice.”
On the other side, Woodstock coach Mike Brasile acknowledged the challenges faced during the game but remained optimistic about their playoff prospects. “This is the first time in 16 years for us making the playoffs, so we’re excited about playing playoff football,” Brasile said, emphasizing their commitment to preparing for the upcoming challenge.
Quarterback Caden Thompson completed 13 of 23 passes for 102 yards, with teammate Matthew Cress catching five passes for 52 yards. Despite the loss, Woodstock is likely to secure a spot in the first round of the playoffs, marking an important milestone for the team.
As both teams prepare for the next phase of the season, the rivalry remains a highlight, with Woodstock North taking pride in their dominant victory and looking ahead with determination.
