Young Entrepreneur Brightens Calgary’s Holidays with Tree Sales
In Calgary, a young entrepreneur is spreading holiday cheer through a new business selling real Christmas trees sourced from Quebec. Julien Millaire, a 22-year-old recent graduate, is not just focused on making sales; he is committed to giving back to the community during the festive season. With each tree sold, Millaire donates a Christmas gift to families in need, particularly those facing hardships during winter months.
Combining Business with a Purpose
Millaire emphasizes the importance of community support during the holidays. “It’s always good to give back during Christmas time, especially since it can be miserable for some families, particularly those with loved ones in the hospital receiving treatment,” he stated. “So every tree that I sell, I’m actually giving back a Christmas gift. All those gifts are items that they needed on their list.” This philosophy drives his business model, which merges entrepreneurial ambition with social responsibility.
Using his savings, Millaire initially purchased 400 trees and has already sold approximately 30. The trees are priced between $130 and $380, with sizes reaching up to 10 feet tall. He takes pride in the quality of his inventory, which includes a mix of Fraser firs and balsam varieties. Millaire explains that each tree is well-prepared, stating, “These are quite big trees. They’re very full once they’re open.”
A Journey from Idea to Reality
The concept for this venture took root four years ago, during Millaire’s college studies. He started with a simple pickup-and-drop-off service for Christmas trees, but his aspirations grew over time. Although he admits it was “always a scary investment,” he ultimately decided to expand into full tree sales. Now, his Christmas tree lot is situated along Blackfoot Trail, where he offers both delivery and pickup options.
Millaire hopes that his business will become a beloved holiday tradition for Calgarians. He believes that providing high-quality, locally sourced trees can contribute to the festive spirit of the season. Furthermore, this endeavor serves a practical purpose for Millaire, as he aims to pay off his student debt while pursuing his dream.
Looking ahead, Millaire’s entrepreneurial journey does not end with the holiday season. After Christmas, he plans to explore new business ideas, ensuring that his drive for innovation continues well into the new year. His combination of holiday spirit and business acumen illustrates how one individual’s passion can positively impact their community.
