A recent study reveals that Australia leads the world in artificial intelligence (AI) usage, with over 5 million recorded interactions per capita. This finding comes from a comprehensive survey conducted by the research firm Eskimoz, which evaluated AI activity across various nations based on website visits and application usage. The report underscores the growing reliance on AI technologies globally, with an overall increase of 20% in AI usage in 2025.

The survey assessed three primary factors: total visits to AI-themed websites and applications, traffic per 100,000 residents, and the rate of visits to AI tools. By focusing on traffic per capita, the study aimed to provide a balanced view that mitigates the impact of larger populations on the results. The data highlights that Australians engage with AI a staggering 1.35 billion times annually, with nearly 2% of that traffic directed towards AI tools such as chatbots and content generators.

Following Australia, the Netherlands ranks second, with just under 5 million AI interactions per capita. This translates to approximately 917 million total AI engagements annually, where AI tools represent about 1% of the activity.

In the third position is Canada, reporting 4.8 million AI interactions per capita. Canadians utilize AI approximately 2 billion times each year, showcasing a notable preference for specialized AI tools, which account for 2.4% of their total interactions.

The United States holds the fourth spot, with the highest overall traffic to AI platforms, recording an impressive 16.4 billion AI uses in just one year. Even with its large population, the U.S. maintains a per capita interaction rate of 4.7 million, with AI tools making up 20% of all traffic.

Rounding out the top five is the United Kingdom, where residents engage with AI at a rate of 3.5 million interactions per capita. The UK’s total annual AI usage is around 2.4 billion, with AI tools representing 3% of all visits.

Germany ranks sixth, recording the second-highest overall traffic to AI platforms at 2.6 billion uses. AI tools account for 3.18% of all interactions, indicating a strong dependency on these services, which is notably higher than Australia’s share.

Peru stands as the only South American nation in the study, ranking ninth with an AI usage rate of 2.6 million interactions per capita. It records over 926 million total AI visits, with a notable 1.15% of consumption stemming from AI tools.

Finally, Malaysia completes the list in tenth place, with an AI interaction rate of 2.4 million per 100,000 people. Total visits to AI platforms reach 888 million, with AI tools accounting for 1.09% of all usage.
