Digital Journal Partners with API for Life Sciences Week 2025

Digital Journal has been named the official media partner for Life Sciences Week 2025, which will take place from September 22-26 in Edmonton and Calgary. This collaboration aims to position Alberta’s life sciences advancements within a broader context of national and international discussions regarding research, commercialization, and investment.
The week-long event is designed to highlight the contributions of researchers, entrepreneurs, investors, and policymakers through a range of activities, including the Life Sciences Summit, panel discussions, industry tours, and pitch sessions. These events will emphasize how Alberta’s ecosystem is fostering commercialization and creating an environment conducive to growth.
Applied Pharmaceutical Innovation (API), one of Canada’s leading life sciences commercialization organizations, oversees Life Sciences Week with support from various provincial partners. The organization views this media partnership as a means to elevate Alberta’s achievements within the innovation ecosystem across Canada.
“We’re thrilled to have Digital Journal taking part in Life Sciences Week,” said Andrew MacIsaac, CEO of API. “Something truly phenomenal is happening in the province. We’re seeing tremendous momentum growing in the sector that is set to change the Life Sciences nationally for the better. We’re collaborating across the country, and we can’t wait for Digital Journal to be part of capturing the excitement.”
Agenda Highlights Innovations in Life Sciences
This year’s agenda will showcase how emerging technologies and capabilities are transforming the sector. Key sessions will explore the application of artificial intelligence in healthcare, Alberta’s manufacturing advantages, and innovations in women’s health through a dedicated femtech program. Additionally, early-stage ventures based in Calgary and Edmonton will be featured in regional spotlight events.
A Health Tech Showcase will allow companies to demonstrate tools and technologies that are advancing toward commercialization. Participants will also have opportunities to tour research facilities and clinical programs, gaining firsthand insight into ongoing advancements.
Alberta’s life sciences sector is not only expanding in scale but also in its impact. According to BioAlberta’s 2025 delegation report, the industry now generates approximately $9.2 billion in annual revenue and supports over 34,000 jobs, contributing $4.7 billion to the provincial GDP. The ecosystem comprises more than 1,900 companies and organizations, with small enterprises projected to add 1,800 jobs this year—reflecting a 44% increase in direct industry employment since 2022.
Alberta’s Rising Global Profile
The global profile of Alberta’s life sciences sector is also on the rise. The University of Alberta’s Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences recently ranked 38th in the world, climbing ten positions year on year. Significant investments are underway, particularly the expansion of the Life Sciences Campus in the Edmonton Research Park, which is anchored by Canada’s largest security of supply site, the Critical Medicines Production Centre. Companies such as Future Fields, PulseMedica, and Entos are also gaining momentum, contributing to the sector’s growth.
Digital Journal will provide comprehensive coverage from the week’s events, focusing on how discussions and announcements translate into opportunities for Alberta’s life sciences sector.
“Life Sciences Week brings together many parts of the ecosystem, and API plays a central role in building the conditions for life sciences to grow in Alberta,” stated Chris Hogg, CEO of Digital Journal. “We’re excited to work alongside them to connect those stories through coverage, highlighting where commercialization is working, where challenges remain, and how Canadian opportunities are being shaped in real time.”
The coverage will emphasize how conversations surrounding commercialization, investment, and talent development emerge throughout innovation showcases, policy discussions, and community mixers. It will also highlight the implications of these discussions for Canada’s role in global health innovation.
Life Sciences Week 2025 is set to be a pivotal event, running from September 22-26 in Edmonton and Calgary. The programming is specifically designed to exhibit how Alberta’s ecosystem is linking research to commercialization and unlocking new opportunities for growth.
