Dinosaurs Unleashed: Lego Jurassic World Exhibition Opens in Edmonton

A remarkable exhibition featuring Lego sculptures of dinosaurs has officially opened at the Telus World of Science in Edmonton, Alberta. The “Jurassic World by Brickman” exhibition showcases millions of Lego bricks, transforming the science centre into a vibrant homage to the beloved Jurassic World series. This event marks the first and only Canadian stop for the traveling exhibition, which will remain in Edmonton until April 6, 2024.

Interactive Experience for All Ages

Simon Challenor, the head of global exhibitions for Brickman, expressed the excitement surrounding the exhibit. “Everyone loves dinosaurs, everyone loves Lego. You put the two of them together, you don’t find many people you can’t please,” he remarked. The exhibition features a variety of dinosaur sculptures, including baby dinosaurs, eggs, triceratops, velociraptors, and the towering brachiosaurus, which is one of the largest Lego sculptures in the world.

The brachiosaurus model, weighing approximately two tonnes, consists of around 171,000 Lego Duplo bricks and requires a full semi-trailer for transportation. Challenor noted the impressive scale of the project, stating, “Just to build the models was 10,000 hours of build time with 6 million Lego bricks over a period of about six to nine months, with a team of 30 people.”

Constance Scarlett, the president and CEO of Telus World of Science Edmonton, highlighted the educational aspect of the exhibition: “This exhibition marries creativity with science. It’s a space where guests are going to be inspired to build and innovate and really see where their imaginations can take them.”

Engaging Activities for Families

In addition to the stunning sculptures, the exhibition offers approximately 2.5 million loose Lego bricks for visitors to use in their own building projects. This interactive environment encourages participation from both children and adults, making it a unique family experience. “That’s part of the beauty that I see in an exhibition like this is that you sometimes go to an exhibition if you’ve got kids, and it’s for the kids and not for you,” Challenor explained. “Whereas we see families come through here and the parents are having just as good a time as the kids.”

Visitors have expressed their enthusiasm for the hands-on activities available throughout the exhibition. Amy Lee, a parent who attended with her children, remarked, “We liked how interactive it was. It was nice to come in and every single little room had something to do, and there was something to look at and get their hands on.”

The Edmonton exhibition is the eleventh stop for the “Jurassic World by Brickman” tour, which previously took place in Portland, Oregon. According to Challenor, approximately 2.5 million people have experienced the exhibition across its various locations.
