Alan Hamel, husband of the late actress and author Suzanne Somers, has revealed plans to create an artificial intelligence clone of his wife, who passed away in 2023. Somers, known for her enduring battle with breast cancer, died at the age of 76. Hamel disclosed this innovative project during an interview with People magazine, emphasizing the importance of preserving her memory.

Hamel explained that the idea stemmed from discussions he and Somers had in the 1980s after they became acquainted with the concept of AI through Ray Kurzweil, a prominent computer scientist. “We knew it was coming,” he stated, recognizing Kurzweil’s influence on their thinking. Hamel described Kurzweil as “the smartest man on the planet,” a title previously endorsed by Bill Gates.

The AI clone, referred to as the Suzanne AI Twin, aims to provide valuable insights based on Somers’ extensive body of work. This includes her 27 books and numerous interviews over her career. Hamel expressed excitement about fulfilling his late wife’s vision. “She said, ‘I think we should do that. I think it’ll be very interesting and we’ll provide a service to my fans,’” he recalled.

During a recent conference, Hamel demonstrated the AI’s capabilities, revealing that it had been trained to respond to questions as Somers would have. “When you look at the finished one next to the real Suzanne, you can’t tell the difference,” he noted, emphasizing the AI’s lifelike quality.

While initially concerned about how their family would react, Hamel shared that they are fully supportive of the project. “They said, ‘We’re going to get to the point where it’s not going to seem weird, and it’ll just be another way to communicate,’” he explained. This affirmation from his family has reassured him, reinforcing the idea that this endeavor serves as a tribute to Somers’ legacy.

Hamel’s commitment to creating the Suzanne AI Twin reflects a blend of nostalgia and technological advancement. By merging memories with innovation, he hopes to offer something meaningful to both fans and followers of Somers’ work. As AI technology continues to evolve, this project raises questions about the future of digital legacies and how they can impact personal connections.
