Amadeus Secures Three Major Deals to Transform Airline Operations

Amadeus has announced three significant contracts aimed at enhancing the travel experience for passengers and streamlining operations for airlines. The company’s latest initiatives include integrating digital identity technologies for Malaysia Airlines and establishing global distribution agreements with emerging carriers Riyadh Air and Sun PhuQuoc Airways. These agreements highlight Amadeus’ ongoing growth and commitment to innovation in the aviation sector.
Malaysia Airlines Embraces Digital Identity
Malaysia Airlines has become the first airline in Southeast Asia to implement digitalized travel identity documents, including biometric passports. This innovative approach aims to simplify passenger processing throughout the travel journey. As part of this initiative, Malaysia Airlines is deploying Amadeus Travel Ready, which will facilitate the use of digital travel documents, such as visas and health certificates, for identity verification at critical touchpoints, including check-in, baggage drop, security, and boarding.
Clarence Lee Chin Ken, Chief Digital Officer of Malaysia Aviation Group, emphasized the importance of this technology in reducing airport congestion. “Allowing passengers to upload and verify their travel documents ahead of time during online check-in will reduce airport congestion,” he stated. The initial phase of this project will see the implementation of online and mobile check-ins.
Javier Laforgue, Executive Vice President of Amadeus’ travel unit and Managing Director for Asia Pacific, noted that this partnership marks a significant advancement in passenger convenience and security. He remarked, “As a first mover in the region with Amadeus Travel Ready, Malaysia Airlines will benefit from advanced biometric enrolment capabilities, ensuring a seamless and secure travel experience for its customers.”
Strategic Partnerships with Emerging Airlines
In addition to Malaysia Airlines, Amadeus has secured a global distribution agreement with Saudi Arabia’s new digital-first carrier, Riyadh Air. Set to commence operations in October 2025, the airline plans to leverage this partnership to access a vast network of travel technology suppliers. Riyadh Air aims to expand its reach to more than 100 destinations by 2030, creating ample opportunities for biometric technology integration.
The partnership focuses on enhancing personalized sales capabilities, which will be crucial as the airline establishes its presence in the competitive aviation market. The potential for deploying biometric systems within Riyadh Air’s framework could significantly enhance the passenger experience.
Similarly, Sun PhuQuoc Airways, a new airline in Vietnam, is set to adopt several Amadeus software solutions to support its full-service operations. The airline will implement the Altéa Passenger Service System (PSS), which manages essential functions such as booking, ticketing, inventory, and departure control. This integration aims to elevate customer experience as the airline prepares to launch operations later this year.
Amadeus has experienced robust growth, with a reported increase of 6.8 percent in revenue during the first half of fiscal 2025, reaching €3.26 billion (approximately US$3.81 billion). Profit and adjusted profit also saw increases of 12.3 percent and 8.5 percent, respectively. The company is actively pursuing new customers across all business lines, alongside significant investments in research and development.
To further bolster its financial position, Amadeus has initiated a share repurchase program valued at €1.3 billion, signaling confidence in its future growth trajectory. The strategic moves made by Amadeus not only enhance its competitive edge but also pave the way for a more efficient and technologically advanced travel experience for passengers globally.
