Atari Transforms Classic Joystick into $125 Whiskey Decanter

Atari has unveiled a unique product that pays homage to its gaming legacy: a whiskey decanter designed to resemble the iconic CX-10 joystick from the renowned Atari 2600 console. Priced at $125 USD, this decanter targets a niche market of gamers who are now in their late forties and beyond, blending nostalgia with sophistication.
The Atari 2600, which was officially retired in 1992, played a crucial role in shaping the gaming industry. It introduced players to classics such as Donkey Kong, Pac-Man, and Space Invaders, establishing a foundation for modern gaming. The new decanter serves as a tribute to this influential console, allowing enthusiasts to celebrate their gaming roots while enjoying fine spirits.
Design and Features of the Decanter
The decanter is crafted in the shape of the CX-10 joystick, a key component of the Atari 2600 setup. This joystick connected to the console via cable and was instrumental in the gaming experiences of countless players. The decanter measures 19 cm (7.5 inches) tall and boasts a capacity of 750 ml (approximately 25 ounces), making it suitable for aerating whiskey or scotch.
Attention to detail is evident in the design, which features a broad base, a slender neck, and a glass stopper. The joystick’s iconic button is also included, highlighted with red ink for added flair. Each decanter is packaged with two matching glasses, each adorned with the Atari logo in white. While some may prefer a more durable molded logo, the painted design is consistent with the overall aesthetic of the set.
To complete the offering, the decanter comes with a display tray that includes the production dates of the CX-10 joystick, which were 1977-1978, alongside Atari’s slogan, “Futuristic Since Forever.”
A Toast to Gaming History
This decanter not only serves a functional purpose but also acts as a conversation starter for collectors and gaming enthusiasts. It embodies a blend of nostalgia and elegance, appealing to those who appreciate both gaming culture and fine beverages. As Atari continues to innovate while honoring its past, this product stands out as a distinctive way to celebrate the joy of gaming and the memories associated with it.
Atari’s decision to create a whiskey decanter reflects a growing trend among brands to merge lifestyle products with iconic imagery from their histories. For those who grew up with the Atari 2600, the decanter is a chance to raise a glass to the games that defined their childhood, all while enjoying the finer things in life.
