Dodge Dart Recall Issued Again for Roll-Away Risk

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced a recall affecting approximately 298,439 Dodge Darts from model years 2013 to 2016. This recall addresses a serious safety concern regarding the potential for vehicles to roll away due to a defect in the shifter cable. Specifically, the cable may detach from the transmission, preventing the vehicle from shifting into the Park position.
This recall follows a previous action taken in 2019, when about 300,000 vehicles in the United States and an additional 20,000 in Canada were recalled for the same issue. At that time, the remedy implemented did not effectively resolve the problem, prompting renewed investigations by the NHTSA after an increase in reports of shifter cable failures in 2024.
The latest investigation revealed that the previously installed remedy had not adequately addressed the defect, leading to the current recall. Owners of affected vehicles will receive notifications by mail detailing the recall. However, Stellantis, the parent company of Dodge, has not yet developed a solution for this issue and will inform owners when a remedy becomes available.
In the meantime, it is advisable for Dodge Dart owners to use the parking brake whenever parked, especially on inclines, to prevent any potential roll-away incidents. Those who had their vehicles repaired under the previous recall will still need to have their vehicles inspected for the current safety issue.
Currently, Transport Canada has not listed this recall, but updates will be provided as more information becomes available. Owners can check their vehicle’s recall status by entering their vehicle identification number (VIN) on the Transport Canada website.
As the situation develops, safety officials continue to emphasize the importance of addressing this defect promptly to ensure the safety of drivers and passengers alike.
