Free Transit Service Launches for New Year’s Eve Celebrations
Public transit in Prince Albert will once again be free on New Year’s Eve, allowing residents to celebrate the arrival of 2026 without the burden of transportation costs. The initiative will run from 19:15 on December 31, 2025, until 03:15 on January 1, 2026, providing a vital service for those looking to ring in the new year safely.
Anna Dinsdale, Community Safety & Well-Being Manager with the City of Prince Albert, emphasized the importance of this service. “Free transit removes barriers for those who may not otherwise have an opportunity to go out and celebrate the start of a new year,” she stated. Dinsdale highlighted that this initiative ensures everyone has the chance to enjoy the festivities without the worry of transportation.
The free transit service will cover six routes: the Rush Hour, All-Day, West Hill, East Hill, East Flat, and West Flat routes. These routes will operate on their regular schedules throughout the day on Thursday, continuing to run every 30 minutes into the evening until the early hours of New Year’s Day.
For those using Access Transit, bookings can be made in advance by calling 306-953-4460. Riders are encouraged to utilize the online tracking service available at transitlivepa.ca to monitor their bus in real time on New Year’s Eve. This feature allows passengers to plan their journeys more effectively and ensures they can partake in the celebrations with ease.
This initiative not only promotes safety but also enhances community spirit. By providing free transit, the City of Prince Albert aims to foster an inclusive environment where all community members can participate in the festivities surrounding the New Year.
