Google Launches AI Mode in Canada, Transforming Search Experience

Google has officially launched its new feature, AI Mode, in Canada, enhancing the search experience for users on both Android and iOS platforms. Announced during Google I/O 2025, this innovative addition integrates the capabilities of the Gemini 2.5 model into Google’s search results page, allowing for a more nuanced exploration of queries.
With the rollout currently focused on English, Google plans to expand AI Mode to additional languages in the future. This feature aims to streamline the process of searching by breaking down queries into subtopics, which allows users to receive multiple, relevant questions simultaneously. This capability enables a deeper investigation than typical search methods.
AI Mode employs a Deep Search functionality, empowering users to issue hundreds of searches and ask more complex questions. The result is a user experience that produces expert-level reports, complete with citations. The multimodal aspect of AI Mode means users can interact using voice, text, or even their camera, broadening accessibility.
A user shared their experience with AI Mode, demonstrating its practical applications. When asking, “If I wanted to make tapioca, what would I need, and where can I get the ingredients?” the AI provided a comprehensive response. It not only defined tapioca but also indicated where to find tapioca starch, including links to local stores and their locations on a map. Additionally, it offered step-by-step instructions on making tapioca and included tips on storage.
The user followed up with further inquiries regarding cost and healthier preparation methods. AI Mode efficiently responded with affordable options for obtaining ingredients and provided various suggestions on healthier recipes for bubble tea and tapioca pudding.
Concerns have arisen regarding the potential impact of AI Mode on website traffic. While Google’s representatives assert that its AI tools do not negatively affect web traffic, anecdotal evidence suggests otherwise. The seamless integration of these features may lead users to remain within the Google ecosystem, reducing the need to navigate to external websites for information.
As AI Mode continues to develop, it marks a significant shift in how users interact with search engines, potentially redefining the digital landscape. The implications for content creators, businesses, and information providers could be profound as the use of AI in search becomes more prevalent.
