Google Voice Enhances Starter Plan with Key Features for Businesses
Small businesses and organizations using Google Voice will benefit from significant upgrades to its entry-level Starter plan. Effective from November 12, 2025, this update introduces the ability to use physical desk phones and on-demand call recording, features that were previously reserved for higher-tier plans. These enhancements aim to make the Starter plan a more comprehensive solution for small teams.
Enhanced Desk Phone Support
The addition of desk phone support allows organizations on the Google Voice Starter plan to provision and manage compatible desk phones and adapters. This change means that teams are no longer limited to taking calls on laptops or mobile devices. They can now implement traditional hardware, such as compatible Polycom devices, or utilize Analog Telephone Adapters (ATAs) to connect existing office phones. This flexibility enhances professionalism and caters to diverse working environments, making it easier for teams to communicate effectively.
On-Demand Call Recording
Another noteworthy feature being introduced is on-demand call recording. Users on the Starter plan will now find a straightforward record button within the Google Voice interface during active calls. This functionality streamlines the process of capturing important conversations, which is essential for training, compliance, or simply retaining details for future reference. The introduction of this feature significantly elevates the Starter plan, transforming it into a more robust business solution.
For organizations, these enhancements eliminate previous barriers that often compelled small teams to consider upgrading to more expensive options. The new features are designed to ensure that even smaller enterprises can operate with a professional phone system that meets their needs without incurring excessive costs.
Administrators will need to enable desk phone support before adding devices. In contrast, the call recording feature will be enabled by default for Voice Starter add-on subscriptions, though administrators have the option to disable it. Standalone personal Voice Starter subscriptions will not have admin controls for this feature.
With these updates, the Google Voice Starter plan becomes a more appealing choice for small businesses seeking effective communication solutions. The introduction of these key features not only enhances the value of the plan but also positions Google Voice as a viable option for teams of any size.
