Huawei Unveils Mate XTs: Second Generation of Tri-Fold Phones

Huawei has launched its latest innovation in foldable technology, the Mate XTs, marking the company’s second-generation tri-fold device. This new smartphone showcases an evolution in foldable form factors, allowing users to fold the display twice, enhancing versatility in mobile use.
Innovative Design and Specifications
The Mate XTs boasts an impressive 10.2-inch LTPO OLED display that supports a resolution of 3K and a refresh rate of 90Hz. This expansive screen features a 16:11 aspect ratio, enabling the simultaneous use of up to three applications side by side. With a peak brightness of 1,800 nits, the display also supports stylus input, making it suitable for both creative and professional tasks.
When folded once, the device transitions to a 7.9-inch screen for dual-use, and folding it a second time results in a compact 6.4-inch size. Despite these transformations, the device remains remarkably thin at 3.8mm when unfolded and 12.8mm when folded, weighing in at 298 grams.
Internally, the Kirin 9020 chipset powers the Mate XTs, offering a performance increase of 36% over its predecessor, the Kirin 9010. Users can choose configurations with 16GB of RAM and storage options reaching up to 1TB. The camera system is equally robust, featuring a 50-megapixel main sensor with a variable aperture ranging from f/1.4 to f/4.0, a 40-megapixel ultrawide lens, and a 12-megapixel periscope lens capable of 5.5x optical zoom. A 5,600mAh silicon anode battery ensures long usage, supporting 66W wired and 50W wireless charging.
Market Position and Pricing
Positioned as a high-end device, the Mate XTs is distinguished by its unique design and advanced specifications. It is compatible with the Huawei pencil stylus, facilitating note-taking and gesture controls. Additionally, users can enhance their experience by pairing a Bluetooth keyboard for a desktop-like setup.
Currently, the Mate XTs will be available exclusively in the Chinese market. The introductory price for the 16GB/256GB model starts at CNY 17,999 (approximately $2,520). Higher storage versions are priced at CNY 19,999 (around $2,800) for the 512GB model and CNY 21,999 (approximately $3,080) for the 1TB variant. Deliveries are set to commence on September 12, 2023. At this time, Huawei has not announced any plans for an international release.
The launch of the Mate XTs underscores Huawei’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of mobile technology, offering consumers a glimpse into the future of smartphones.
