Innovative Iris Pod Offers Workplace Calm in Just 10 Minutes

The modern workplace often feels chaotic, with constant meetings, a barrage of emails, and distractions that make it difficult to find peace. To address this, OpenSeed has unveiled the **Iris Pod**, a meditation capsule designed to provide a calming retreat within the office environment. Created in collaboration with designer **Yves Béhar** and his team at **Fuseproject**, along with **Tuux studio** from **Mexico City**, this innovative pod aims to revolutionize workplace wellness.
The concept for the Iris Pod emerged from a personal experience. Founder **Jonathan Marcoschamer** participated in a **10-day silent meditation course** in 2018 and sought a way to maintain that tranquility amidst the hustle of an open-plan office. Faced with a lack of privacy, he decided to develop a solution that would enable employees to find their zen during the busiest workdays.
Design and Functionality of the Iris Pod
The Iris Pod’s design is strikingly cocoon-like, crafted from sustainably sourced wood and soft felt panels. This creates a sensory sanctuary, enveloping users in a comforting environment. Inside, individuals are greeted by a multisensory experience that combines guided meditation, synchronized lighting, aromatherapy, and immersive soundscapes. Users can select from various experiences, including breathwork and visualization exercises, via a touchscreen interface.
The pod also features lighting sequences that harmonize with the audio, creating a therapeutic atmosphere that can induce calm in less than **10 minutes**. Béhar’s design philosophy emphasizes both aesthetics and functionality, utilizing **100% felt panels** to provide excellent sound insulation while allowing for natural airflow. The choice of materials reflects a commitment to sustainability, incorporating recycled sawdust and natural textiles to minimize plastic use. This connection between eco-conscious design and luxury comfort highlights a modern approach to workplace amenities.
Impact and Adoption Across Industries
The practical aspects of the Iris Pod are equally impressive. Unlike earlier versions that required lengthy installation, the new pod ships flat and can be assembled in just a few hours. This innovation not only reduces shipping costs but also lessens environmental impact, making it a feasible investment for businesses dedicated to employee wellbeing. Priced at **$22,500** plus installation, the pod is proving its worth in corporate settings. For instance, companies like **Deloitte** and **Morgan Stanley** report utilizing the pods up to **16 times daily**, offering employees numerous opportunities to reset and refocus.
The Iris Pod is beginning to find applications beyond traditional office environments. Healthcare facilities, including cancer treatment centers and hospitals, are incorporating these pods for both patients and staff during breaks. Even correctional facilities are deploying them for police officers facing high-stress situations. This broad adoption indicates a growing recognition of the need for accessible meditation spaces across various sectors.
The Iris Pod signifies a larger movement towards valuing mental health and acknowledging the importance of breaks in maintaining productivity. It’s a forward-thinking solution that encourages individuals to take a moment to breathe and be present. In a world that increasingly demands more, having a dedicated space for mindfulness feels not just beneficial but essential. As organizations continue to explore methods to enhance employee wellbeing, the Iris Pod stands out as a promising innovation in workplace wellness.
