Intel Launches Core Ultra Series 3 with Advanced 18A Technology
Intel has officially launched the Core Ultra Series 3, marking a significant advancement in personal computing technology. Unveiled at CES 2026, this new AI PC platform is built on what Intel describes as its most advanced manufacturing process, known as **18A technology**. The Series 3 introduces a fresh lineup of processors, including the **Core Ultra X9** and **X7** models, which are designed to deliver enhanced performance and efficiency.
The flagship devices in the Ultra Series 3 are set to offer remarkable specifications. Each device will feature up to **16 CPU cores** and **12 efficiency cores**. Additionally, they will provide a processing capability of up to **50 NPU TOPS**, resulting in a **60% improvement** in multithread performance. Gaming enthusiasts can also expect a significant boost, with claims of over **77% faster gaming performance** compared to previous models. Battery life is another highlight, with devices reportedly lasting up to **27 hours** on a single charge.
Intel’s comparisons primarily involve its **Lunar Lake** V series, engineered for AI applications, and the **Panther Lake** H series, which is oriented more towards gaming and creative tasks. This juxtaposition may not provide a direct comparison, but it illustrates the diverse capabilities of the new processors. The System on Chip (SoC) architecture for the Ultra Series 3 also boasts impressive metrics, including up to **80 total TOPS**, **120 GPU TOPS**, and support for up to **95GB of RAM**.
Pre-orders for the first laptops equipped with the Intel Core Ultra Series 3 will commence on **January 6, 2026**. Intel has announced that over **200 designs** from various partners will adopt this new technology throughout the first quarter of the year. This extensive collaboration is expected to accelerate the integration of advanced computing capabilities into consumer devices, further enhancing user experiences across different applications.
As technology continues to evolve rapidly, Intel’s Core Ultra Series 3 positions itself at the forefront of innovation, with a clear focus on meeting the demands of both AI and gaming markets.
