Kobo Clara BW Back in Stock: What You Need to Know
The highly anticipated return of the Kobo Clara BW to the market has finally arrived, with the e-reader now available for purchase in the United States. Following a period of unavailability that began in early October 2023, when the device was sold out on the main Kobo website and Amazon, customers can once again acquire this popular model. The company had provided no updates regarding restock dates during its absence, leaving fans of the device eagerly awaiting news.
The Kobo Clara BW, known for its distinctive black and white e-paper display, stands out among Kobo’s offerings. Unlike other models such as the Kobo Clara Colour and Kobo Libra Colour, which feature color screens, the Clara BW is the only current device in the black and white category. The previous black and white model, the Kobo Sage, has been discontinued for over a year, making the Clara BW an essential choice for those who prefer this style.
Improved Features and Specifications
Recently refreshed, the Kobo Clara BW comes equipped with a significantly larger battery, enhancing its usability. It features a 6-inch E INK Carta 1300 display that is 25% more responsive than its predecessor, the Kobo Clara 2e. The display boasts a resolution of 1448 x 1072 pixels at 300 PPI, ensuring sharp and clear text. With comprehensive Dark Mode capabilities and a recessed screen that lacks glass, the reading experience is designed to be more immersive, allowing text to appear closer to the reader’s eyes.
The device is designed with user comfort in mind, featuring the ComfortLight PRO system, which offers adjustable brightness with both white and amber LED lights for reading at night. Users have noted that setting the white light to 35% and the amber to 7% results in a screen that closely resembles that of the Amazon Kindle Paperwhite.
Inside, the e-reader is powered by a MediaTek MT8113L processor, featuring an ARM A53 running at 1 GHz, alongside 512MB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. Unlike previous models that relied on external SD cards, the Clara BW utilizes EEMC storage integrated directly onto the circuit board, streamlining the user experience.
Connectivity and Usability
In addition to its reading capabilities, the Kobo Clara BW supports audiobook and eBook purchases directly from Kobo. Users can listen via Bluetooth 5.0, allowing connectivity with earbuds, headphones, or external speakers. The device also includes an internet browser, enabling access to websites, as well as Pocket integration for saving articles. Moreover, it is compatible with numerous libraries through OverDrive, allowing users to browse, borrow, and read titles easily.
For connectivity, the e-reader supports WiFi 802.11 ac/b/g/n, offering dual-band options of 2.4 and 5 GHz. This ensures a stable connection for downloading books or accessing online services.
With its return, the Kobo Clara BW reinforces its position as a preferred choice for readers seeking a reliable, modern e-reader with a focus on black and white displays. Customers can now purchase the device from the official Kobo website and its Amazon store, reigniting interest in this versatile reading tool.
