Lethbridge Launches Curbside Battery Collection Program in November
The City of Lethbridge is set to initiate a Curbside Battery Collection Program from November 18 to 28, 2025. This initiative, developed in collaboration with Call2Recycle Canada, aims to provide residents with a safe and convenient method for disposing of household batteries.
Residents can expect battery pickups on the same day their curbside organics cart is collected. To ensure proper disposal, the City instructs participants to use either the designated battery collection bag or a resealable plastic bag. The program accepts a variety of household batteries, including AA, AAA, C, D, 9V, and coin/button cells, as well as batteries weighing under five kilograms. Notably, rechargeable batteries, such as NiCad, NiMH, and Lithium-Ion, along with car batteries and other industrial batteries, are not included in this collection.
Once collected, the batteries will be transported to approved recycling facilities for sorting and processing, ensuring they are handled in an environmentally responsible manner. As this is a pilot program, City crews will not return for collections that are missed or scheduled late. For those unable to utilize the curbside service, batteries can still be dropped off at the Waste and Recycling Centre or other designated drop-off locations.
In addition, residents who utilize the free Lethbridge Loop app will receive reminders on their collection days, making participation in the program even more convenient. For further details, residents are encouraged to visit the City’s website at lethbridge.ca/BatteryCollection.
This initiative reflects Lethbridge’s commitment to environmental sustainability and responsible waste management practices, offering an accessible solution for residents to dispose of used batteries safely.
