Lethbridge Opens Applications for New Transit Advisory Committee

Lethbridge has officially opened applications for a new Transit Advisory Committee (TAC), aimed at enhancing public transit services in the city. The TAC will convene quarterly with municipal representatives to generate ideas and suggest improvements for both fixed route and Access-A-Ride services. This initiative underscores the city’s commitment to fostering communication and collaboration among transit users.

The city’s website outlines that the committee will be divided into two groups: one focused on fixed route services and the other on Access-A-Ride. Each group will have 12 advisory positions, resulting in a total of 24 members. Lethbridge Transit emphasizes that the TAC will play a crucial role in ensuring that the needs and concerns of residents and riders are heard and addressed effectively.

Transit services in Lethbridge have experienced a notable growth of 10 percent in the second quarter of this year, prompting the need for expanded operational hours. According to Darwin Juell, the general manager of Lethbridge Transit, the committee will bring together a diverse group of individuals with varying needs and experiences. “By getting a big group together that has different needs, different perspectives and different experiences, they can hear from each other what works for other groups or what doesn’t work for these different groups,” Juell stated.

The city aims to ensure that all voices are represented in discussions about public transit, and the TAC is designed to facilitate this dialogue. Residents interested in participating can submit applications electronically through the city’s website. For those who prefer a printed format, applications can also be collected and submitted at the Downtown Park ‘n Ride.

The deadline for applications is September 30, 2023, and no late submissions will be accepted. This initiative represents a proactive step by Lethbridge City Council to engage the community in shaping the future of public transportation services. By fostering inclusive discussions, the city hopes to craft a transit system that meets the diverse needs of its residents.
