Mobile Mammography Service Arrives in Canmore This November
Alberta Health Services (AHS) will bring its mobile mammography service to Canmore next month, providing crucial breast cancer screening to local women. The mobile unit will be stationed at the Canmore General Hospital on November 15, 2023, and will return from November 17 to 20, 2023. This initiative aims to promote early detection of breast cancer among women aged 45 to 74, who are at the highest risk for developing the disease.
Mammograms, which are X-rays of the breast, play a vital role in identifying early signs of cancer. According to AHS, these screenings are the most effective method for detecting breast cancer at a stage when treatment is more likely to be successful. The mobile service offers a convenient option for women in the region to access this important health resource.
Screening through the mobile mammography unit is free for eligible participants, though appointments are mandatory. Women interested in scheduling a screening can call 1-800-667-0604. Additional information regarding the program can be found on the website ScreeningForLife.ca.
The arrival of the mobile mammography service reflects AHS’s ongoing commitment to enhancing healthcare access and promoting preventive measures in communities across Alberta.
