Nissan to Restart Canadian-Spec Vehicle Production in Spring 2026
Nissan announced it will resume production of Canadian-specific models at its U.S. plants starting in spring 2026. This includes the much-anticipated 2026 versions of the Pathfinder, Murano, and Frontier. The pause in production was initiated in July 2025, following the implementation of retaliatory tariffs by the Canadian government on vehicles imported from the United States.
The decision to restart assembly aligns with Nissan’s strategy to cater to the Canadian market, offering models that feature specific trims and metrics that differ from their American counterparts. The updated Pathfinder for 2026 will showcase a refreshed design and enhanced technology, though it will be available in fewer trims than previous models.
Details on Production Resumption
According to a report from Automotive News Canada, the Canadian-spec versions of the Pathfinder, Murano, and Frontier will begin assembly for Canadian sales in early 2026. The Canadian government imposed a 25% tariff on U.S. vehicles in response to tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum, which led Nissan to temporarily halt production of these models designed for the Canadian market.
Nissan does not manufacture vehicles in Canada, but it had increased imports from its U.S. plants before the tariff implementation. As of now, there are no plans to ship additional 2025-model vehicles. The company indicated that inventory for the 2025 models is “trending lower,” although it did not disclose specific stock levels.
2026 Pathfinder Features and Pricing
The 2026 Nissan Pathfinder will retain its 3.5L V6 engine, delivering 284 horsepower and 259 lb-ft of torque. It will come equipped with standard all-wheel drive and seating for seven or eight passengers. Enhancements for the upcoming model include new front and rear styling, a redesigned dashboard, and advanced technology features.
Among the highlights are a standard 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless connectivity, a panoramic camera, and an upgraded wireless charger with a cooling system for smartphones. The Pathfinder will be officially unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show later in November 2025.
While Canadian pricing has yet to be confirmed, Nissan has indicated that only two trims will be available: the Rock Creek and Platinum. The 2025 Rock Creek trim starts at $55,995 and features off-road enhancements, while the Platinum trim has a starting price of $61,195. The company will eliminate the SL trim, simplifying the lineup for Canadian customers.
As Nissan prepares to resume production, it aims to strengthen its presence in the Canadian automotive market, ensuring that customers have access to vehicles tailored to their specific needs and preferences.
