Thalamus Digital Unveils Roguecraft DX for Classic Gaming Platforms
UK-based Thalamus Digital Publishing Ltd. has officially announced the release of Roguecraft DX for three classic gaming platforms: the Commodore Amiga, MEGA65, and Nintendo Game Boy Color. This announcement, made in collaboration with partners Badger Punch Games, Rocketship Park, and RetroCogs, highlights the growing interest in retro gaming and the expansion of the Roguecraft franchise.
Expanded Features for Retro Enthusiasts
Roguecraft DX is an enhanced version of the original Roguecraft, which debuted in August 2025 as an exclusive title for the Evercade platform. The new edition introduces a host of improvements, including additional levels, redesigned room layouts, and a wider variety of monsters. Players can also look forward to upgraded animations and new achievements, complemented by extra music tracks from renowned composer Jogeir Liljedahl.
The decision to port Roguecraft DX to more retro systems followed the successful reception of the original title. “When we released Roguecraft in 2024, we had no idea that the game would become as popular as it has on the Amiga, and even more so on the Evercade,” commented Ricki Sickenger, co-founder of Badger Punch Games. He emphasized the tailored design of the MEGA65 and Game Boy Color versions, crafted to leverage the unique capabilities of each platform.
Launch Details and Future Plans
Andy Roberts, founder and CEO of Thalamus Digital, expressed enthusiasm about bringing the franchise to a broader audience. “After the success of the original Roguecraft, I was eager to work with Badger Punch Games to bring the franchise to as many gaming platforms as possible,” he stated, recognizing the significant contributions of RetroCogs and Rocketship Park in developing the new ports.
Scheduled for release in the first quarter of 2026, Roguecraft DX features a 3D isometric roguelike design spread over fifteen levels. Players can choose from three characters, facing off against various enemies, traps, and potions, all presented in a nostalgic 16-bit visual style. Notably, the Game Boy Color version has been adapted to suit its hardware limitations.
Digital versions of Roguecraft DX will be available from February 2, 2026, via thalamusdigital.itch.io, while physical pre-orders will commence on March 2, 2026, at the Thalamus online store. Plans for further releases on additional retro systems, as well as modern PCs and consoles, are also in the works, indicating a robust strategy aimed at capitalizing on the retro gaming revival.
