Users Report Color Change in Apple’s Cosmic Orange iPhone 17 Pro
Reports are emerging that Apple’s new Cosmic Orange iPhone 17 Pro may be experiencing a significant color change, shifting to a pink hue. This claim originated from a post on Reddit by user “DakAttack316,” who shared images of their device showing the alleged transformation. While the phenomenon appears limited to a few instances, it raises questions about the durability of the new finish.
The Reddit post features four images displaying the iPhone 17 Pro Max, where the metal components, particularly the edges, show a striking pink color. Interestingly, the main body retains its vibrant orange, suggesting that the issue may be localized to the metal elements rather than the entire device. The images also indicate that certain areas, such as the camera bump, still exhibit a faded orange tint, further complicating the assessment.
Verification of Claims
The Reddit user did not offer any insights into the potential cause of this discoloration but insisted that the images are authentic. Skepticism naturally arises in such cases; digital manipulation is a possibility, and previous iPhone launches have seen similar claims that turned out to be misleading. For instance, during the lead-up to the iPhone’s launch, various fabricated designs and features circulated online, often aimed at creating buzz or controversy.
Currently, a broader search of social media shows limited credible reports of similar color changes. Most discussions revolve around the same images shared by DakAttack316, suggesting that if there is a genuine problem, it has not yet gained widespread attention among users.
Possible Causes of Discoloration
If the claims regarding the discoloration are accurate, oxidation may be the root cause. Typically, oxidation is a slow process and usually does not manifest so quickly. Various external factors could contribute to the color shift, including contact with oils from fingers or environmental substances. However, the absence of localized discoloration in frequently touched areas suggests these factors may not be at play.
Another possibility is a flaw in the anodizing process used by Apple. Anodizing aluminum is generally a reliable method, and Apple has a reputation for maintaining high manufacturing standards. Nevertheless, even with rigorous quality control, occasional anomalies can occur, leading to rare defects.
As users continue to share their experiences, the situation could develop further. If more instances of discoloration emerge in the coming weeks, it may prompt a closer examination from Apple regarding the manufacturing process and the quality of the finishes used in the iPhone 17 Pro line. For now, consumers remain cautious as they navigate the early feedback on this new device.
