Wolverine Set to Debut at PlayStation’s Upcoming State of Play

Insomniac Games is preparing to showcase its highly anticipated game, Wolverine, at the next State of Play event, expected to take place at the end of September 2023. This marks the game’s first official appearance since its surprise reveal during the 2021 PlayStation Showcase. Sources from Insider Gaming suggest that the studio has completed production on a new trailer, making it likely that the game will take center stage at the event.
In the event of any changes, Insomniac plans to release the trailer within the subsequent months, with the Game Awards in December serving as a potential alternative platform for unveiling the game. Despite the excitement surrounding the upcoming reveal, the development process for Wolverine has faced challenges. In December 2023, a ransomware attack targeted Insomniac, resulting in the leak of sensitive employee data and early footage of the game. While the incident necessitated adjustments in the studio’s plans, the extent of any changes to the game itself remains unclear.
As of now, there is no confirmed release date for Wolverine. Both PlayStation and Insomniac have not commented publicly on the matter, but the impending trailer signifies that fans may soon receive updates. The game is currently being developed as a PlayStation 5 exclusive.
Additional Features Expected at State of Play
While Wolverine is anticipated to be the main highlight, the upcoming State of Play is expected to feature a variety of other titles. Bungie is set to present its revival of Marathon, alongside a new Metroidvania-style God of War game and the visually captivating Phantom Blade 0. Furthermore, there is speculation surrounding a mysterious project from Naughty Dog titled Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.
With the launch of Ghost of Yotei scheduled for October 2, 2025, PlayStation may use this event to provide a final preview of the game, enhancing excitement as the release date approaches.
As anticipation builds for the State of Play, the gaming community is eager to see how these developments unfold, particularly with the return of Wolverine to the gaming spotlight.
