A Calgary man has been charged with multiple counts of attempted murder following two serious incidents involving pedestrians in Lethbridge on the evening of October 10, 2025. The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) reported that the man allegedly struck several pedestrians with his vehicle before fleeing the scene.

The incidents occurred around 18:30 local time at the parking lot of the VisitLethbridge.com Arena. Witnesses called 911, reporting that a vehicle had hit multiple people and narrowly missed others. Emergency services arrived to find three individuals injured: a 77-year-old woman, a 77-year-old man, and a 46-year-old man. All three victims sustained serious, though non-life-threatening, injuries and were transported to the hospital in stable condition.

Shortly after the initial collision, the same vehicle was involved in a second incident where it struck a Subaru Outback at the intersection of Mayor Magrath Drive South and Scenic Drive South. The driver reportedly failed to stop after the collision. Police later located the vehicle at a convenience store on Bluefox Boulevard North, where the driver attempted to purchase items but allegedly threatened staff when his card was declined.

The vehicle was subsequently found near Softball Valley on Riverbottom Road North, and the driver was arrested without incident. According to the LPS, the investigation revealed that the driver had intended to strike the victims and was not impaired at the time. Notably, the victims were unknown to him.

Christopher David Hegg, 47, from Calgary, faces five counts of attempted murder, three counts of assault with a weapon, and three counts of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing bodily harm. He is also charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a vehicle, uttering threats, and theft under $5,000.

Following a bail hearing, Hegg has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in court on October 15, 2025. The LPS has indicated that further updates will be provided once the charges are officially sworn in court. The community remains on alert as the investigation continues, highlighting the serious ramifications of reckless driving.
