Campbell River Residents Rate Quality of Life Highly in Recent Survey
A recent survey has revealed that an impressive 93% of residents in Campbell River assess their quality of life as either good or very good. The findings come from the city’s 2025 Citizen Satisfaction Survey, which highlights the community’s appreciation for its natural beauty and the abundance of outdoor recreational opportunities.
Conducted bi-annually, the survey was distributed to 1,600 randomly selected residents, with the option for all community members to participate online. Out of those, 810 surveys were completed, resulting in a 25% response rate. This level of participation is considered statistically representative of Campbell River’s population, with an accuracy margin of ± 5% at a 95% confidence level.
Key Findings from the Survey
The survey unveiled several significant insights regarding resident satisfaction. Among them, 93% of participants indicated that Campbell River is an excellent place to raise children, while 92% would recommend it as a retirement destination.
City services also received favorable evaluations, with 70% of respondents expressing approval of the city’s overall performance. Satisfaction ratings for city trails and parks/events were particularly high, at 94% and 93%, respectively. Additionally, city staff were commended for their helpfulness, achieving an 86% approval rate, and for their knowledge, with 89% of residents rating them positively.
Despite the overall positive feedback, the survey identified pressing concerns among residents. Approximately 56% of respondents highlighted homelessness and addiction as the most critical issues facing the community. Furthermore, 34% indicated that housing availability and affordability should be prioritized. A notable finding was that 29% of participants expressed feeling unsafe in downtown Campbell River, although this figure represented a significant decrease from 49% in the previous year.
Community Progress and Future Focus
Mayor Kermit Dahl addressed the survey results, acknowledging the ongoing challenges related to homelessness, mental health, and addiction. “We recognize the continued concerns around homelessness, mental health, and addictions – but it’s important to reflect on the fact that we’re making progress in these areas and will continue to do so,” he stated.
The city plans to take the survey’s feedback into account as it strives to improve the quality of life for its residents. For those interested in a more detailed overview, the full report is available on the Campbell River Citizen Survey website.
This survey underscores the importance of community engagement and the city’s commitment to addressing both the strengths and challenges highlighted by its residents. The results reflect a community that values its quality of life while remaining aware of the complex issues that need to be tackled moving forward.
