Canucks Overcome Adversity with Win Despite Boeser Injury

The Vancouver Canucks faced yet another setback during their game against the St. Louis Blues on March 15, 2024, when forward Brock Boeser sustained an injury just moments into the match. This incident marked Boeser as the ninth player currently sidelined for the team, which already has six forwards and three defencemen unable to play due to various injuries. Despite this adversity, the Canucks secured a hard-fought 4-3 victory in a shootout, showcasing their resilience and determination.
The injury occurred in the game’s opening seconds when defenceman Elias Pettersson fired a shot that struck Boeser in a sensitive area. Following the incident, Boeser remained on the ice for a brief period before being assisted to the dressing room and did not return to the game. This latest injury adds to what has become a challenging season for the Canucks, who lead the NHL in player injuries.
After the game, Canucks head coach Luke Foote expressed his disbelief over the ongoing injury woes. “We gotta find that person with a voodoo doll, if that’s a thing,” he remarked humorously. “I mean, I don’t believe in that stuff, but I’m like, what is going on here?”
Despite the loss of a key player, the Canucks demonstrated remarkable perseverance. Kiefer Sherwood emerged as the star of the night, scoring all three goals for the team and achieving his second career hat trick. Goaltender Kevin Lankinen was also instrumental in the victory, stopping 36 of 39 shots and successfully thwarting all three attempts during the shootout.
Foote praised his team’s fortitude following the win, stating, “You lose Boes, a good player like that in the first shift, and you’re like, here we go again. I just told [the team], it’s pretty incredible for me, I’ve been here for almost three years, and that’s the best team win I’ve seen since I’ve been here, as far as being resilient.”
In a positive turn, Foote provided an encouraging update on Boeser’s condition, stating, “I can’t even tell you what happened to him, but I think he should be back next game.” This news offers a glimmer of hope for the Canucks as they look to navigate through a difficult season.
The Canucks remain determined to push forward, even as they contend with significant roster challenges. With their next match on the horizon, the team will aim to build on this victory and continue to showcase their grit and tenacity in the face of adversity.
