Canucks Target Consecutive Wins Against Avalanche After Blue Jackets Victory
The Vancouver Canucks aim to achieve consecutive victories for the first time in nearly three weeks as they prepare to face the formidable Colorado Avalanche on November 8, 2025. After a hard-fought 4-3 win against the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Canucks are eager to build momentum against the league’s top team.
In their previous match, Brock Boeser netted a crucial goal during a partial breakaway at 14:15 of the third period to break a 3-3 tie. This victory marked a significant turnaround for the Canucks, who had suffered a 5-2 defeat to the Chicago Blackhawks just days earlier. Conor Garland, Drew O’Connor, and Jake DeBrusk also contributed to the scoring, helping the Canucks improve their record to 8-8-0.
Preparing for the Avalanche Challenge
The Canucks face a tough challenge against the Avalanche, who currently lead the NHL with a record of 9-1-5 and are on a roll, having won four of their last five games. Their latest victory included a staggering 9-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers. DeBrusk emphasized the importance of stepping up their game: “It’s a really tough task, probably against the top team in the league. We’re going to need to bring our best.”
Vancouver previously strung together road wins over Dallas, Chicago, and Washington between October 16 and October 19, but the team has struggled since then, alternating wins and losses. Garland, who returned to the lineup after an injury, expressed the desire to secure multiple wins in a row: “It’s a tough opponent. We’ve just got to play well.”
Coaching Strategy and Player Health Updates
Head coach Adam Foote, who is in his first year with the Canucks, emphasized the need for his young players to focus on the process rather than the opponent. “We have to stick to the process,” he stated. “I know it sounds cliché, but it’s so true. We can’t get too high.” Foote is keen to maintain a balanced emotional state within the team while fostering confidence.
Goaltender Thatcher Demko did not dress for the game against the Blue Jackets due to a missed practice. General manager Patrik Allvin noted that Demko could possibly return for the match against Colorado. Having been limited to just 23 appearances last season due to a knee injury, Demko’s health remains a critical concern for the team. He did skate on Saturday morning, which offers hope for his upcoming participation.
Vancouver’s Kevin Lankinen performed well against Columbus, stopping 29 shots, while Blue Jackets goalie Elvis Merzlikins recorded 21 saves. The Canucks’ recent victory was their first in regulation time in nine games, showcasing their resilience after battling back from a 2-1 deficit.
DeBrusk reflected on the team’s ability to stay focused during the game, stating, “We stayed with the program. It’s something we’ve kind of had to learn.” The Canucks also improved their penalty kill performance, successfully stopping the Blue Jackets from scoring on three power-play opportunities.
As the Canucks gear up for their encounter with the Avalanche, the team aims to maintain their recent progress and secure a much-needed consecutive win. With the stakes high and a challenging opponent ahead, Vancouver will need to bring their A-game to achieve success.
