Chourio and Yelich Propel Brewers to Victory Over Blue Jays

The Milwaukee Brewers secured a 4-1 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on August 30, 2025, thanks to back-to-back home runs from Jackson Chourio and Christian Yelich in the ninth inning. This win marks Milwaukee’s second consecutive victory in Toronto, improving their record to 85-52 this season.
The game unfolded with a tense atmosphere at the Rogers Centre, where the Blue Jays initially took the lead with a sacrifice fly from Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in the sixth inning. However, the Brewers responded in the seventh as Sal Frelick grounded out, allowing Yelich to score and equalize the game at 1-1.
Both teams showcased strong pitching performances, with Quinn Priester for Milwaukee allowing just one unearned run over six innings while striking out three batters and giving up five hits. His efforts were supported by a solid bullpen featuring Jared Koenig, Nick Mears, Aaron Ashby, and Abner Uribe. Ashby earned the win, benefiting from Chourio and Yelich’s late-game heroics.
The ninth inning proved decisive for Milwaukee. Chourio, recently returning from the injured list, delivered a powerful home run, followed immediately by Yelich’s contribution. Isaac Collins then added an RBI double shortly after, sealing the game’s outcome. In contrast, Blue Jays pitcher Kevin Gausman, who struck out eight batters and allowed only one run on four hits over seven innings, was unable to secure a win as the game shifted in favor of Milwaukee’s offense.
Despite a clean eighth inning from Seranthony Dominguez, the Blue Jays’ bullpen faltered when Jeff Hoffman surrendered three runs in the ninth, leading to widespread discontent among the 41,424 fans in attendance. Hoffman’s struggles drew boos from the Rogers Centre crowd, underscoring the challenges faced by Toronto’s relief pitchers.
Chourio’s near-homer in the first inning, which was snagged by Myles Straw just above the center-field wall, highlighted the competitive spirit of the game and set the stage for the later excitement. Meanwhile, Bo Bichette extended his hit streak to 14 games with a single in the ninth, marking the longest streak of his career.
Looking ahead, the Brewers and the Blue Jays will face off again in the series finale, with Max Scherzer (5-2) set to start for Toronto and Brandon Woodruff (5-1) taking the mound for Milwaukee. Both teams will aim to capitalize on their strengths as the season progresses.
