A fourth teenager has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of 16-year-old Carter Spivak-Villeneuve. The Calgary Police Service announced the arrest of a 16-year-old boy on November 14, 2023, following an investigation into the homicide that occurred on August 1, 2023. This latest suspect joins three others, all aged 15, who were previously charged in the case.

Police confirmed that the fourth suspect was apprehended in Calgary less than a week after the initial charges were made public. All four individuals are protected under youth legislation, meaning their identities cannot be disclosed. Authorities believe there are no outstanding suspects in this investigation.

Details Surrounding the Case

Carter Spivak-Villeneuve was discovered dead in the northeast Calgary community of Abbeydale during the early hours of August 1. An autopsy confirmed that his death was a homicide, although the specific circumstances surrounding his death have not been publicly revealed. According to police, there is evidence to suggest that Spivak-Villeneuve had made arrangements to meet with the suspects on that fateful night, and an ongoing dispute is believed to have escalated, leading to the tragic outcome.

Staff Sgt. Sean Gregson of the Calgary Police Homicide Unit expressed condolences to Spivak-Villeneuve’s family, stating, “We know that no arrest can take away the pain that Carter’s family is experiencing. Our thoughts remain with them as they continue to grieve.”

The first arrest in this case occurred on November 4, when a 15-year-old suspect was taken into custody on the Muskowekwan First Nation in Saskatchewan. Following that, two additional suspects were arrested in Calgary on November 12.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the case and have urged anyone with information to come forward. As this investigation progresses, the community remains in mourning for the loss of a young life cut short.
