IVCC Eagles Soar to Victory: Women’s Basketball Team Moves to 2-0

The Illinois Valley Community College (IVCC) women’s basketball team achieved a significant milestone by defeating Blackhawk Technical College 78-58 on Thursday, improving their season record to 2-0. This nonconference victory took place in Oglesby, showcasing the team’s depth and talent with five players scoring in double digits.

Leading the charge for the Eagles was Ella Derossett, who contributed an impressive 19 points, alongside six rebounds and three steals. Her performance exemplified the team’s cohesive effort. Ava Hatton and Ashlyn Ehm both scored 14 points; Hatton also recorded six rebounds, five assists, and four steals, while Ehm added four steals and three blocks to her tally. Quinn McClain chipped in with 11 points, eight rebounds, and three steals, and Jenna Setchell provided valuable support off the bench with 10 points, five rebounds, and three assists.

In the men’s basketball matchup, the Eagles secured a victory against Blackhawk Technical with a score of 85-77. Ameer Anderson was instrumental in this win, scoring 25 points while also grabbing nine rebounds, dishing out three assists, and blocking three shots. Ahmir Woods contributed 20 points, and Kamrin King added 14 points, helping IVCC achieve a record of 1-1 in their season.

Volleyball Team Concludes Season

In contrast, the IVCC volleyball team faced a challenging end to their season as they were defeated by Milwaukee Area Technical College in the Region IV Tournament. The match concluded with scores of 25-22, 25-23, and 25-23, marking the end of the Eagles’ journey for this year. Kaitlyn Anderson stood out with 10 kills and seven digs, while Aubree Acuncius recorded 17 assists, seven digs, and two aces. Camille Huckleba also made a solid contribution with 10 digs.

As the seasons progress, the IVCC Eagles’ focus will likely shift towards building on their successes in basketball while reflecting on the lessons learned from their volleyball campaign.
