Lower Trent Conservation Declares Level III Low Water Condition

The Lower Trent Conservation (LTC) has announced the declaration of a Level III Low Water Condition in its watershed region due to ongoing severe drought conditions. This declaration, made on September 11, 2025, follows a previous Level II Low Water Condition that indicated escalating concerns regarding water availability.
Rainfall deficits have been significant, with the July to September total recorded by Environment Canada at Trenton measuring just 93.6 millimeters, which represents only 40 percent of the normal precipitation expected during this period of 231 millimeters. Furthermore, September’s rainfall amount was particularly low, totaling only 18.4 millimeters, or roughly 20 percent of the average for that month.
The LTC has indicated that these conditions could lead to potential challenges for local water supplies, impacting both agricultural practices and recreational water activities within the region. The organization is urging residents to conserve water and minimize usage wherever possible to mitigate the effects of this drought.
Local farmers and stakeholders are advised to monitor conditions closely, as the drought can affect crop yields and livestock health. The LTC is continuously assessing water levels and will provide updates as necessary, ensuring that the community is informed of any further developments.
As the drought persists, community engagement in water conservation efforts becomes increasingly vital. The LTC has recommended practical steps for residents, such as limiting outdoor water use and checking for leaks in household plumbing.
In summary, the declaration of a Level III Low Water Condition by the Lower Trent Conservation highlights the seriousness of the ongoing drought affecting the region. With rainfall totals significantly below normal, the community is encouraged to take proactive measures to address the challenges posed by this situation.
