Malahat Post Office Set to Reopen in November After Delays

The Malahat Post Office, which has been closed for renovations since June 2, 2024, is now scheduled to reopen during the week of November 3, 2024, according to Canada Post. The closure initially expected to last for eight weeks has extended significantly, causing inconvenience for residents who relied on the post office located within a gas station.

The renovations at the Malahat gas station, which houses the post office, have required more time than originally anticipated. In mid-September, Canada Post indicated that the project was taking longer than expected and revised the reopening date to the end of October. Now, a final inspection is set for next week, and if successful, the post office will resume operations shortly thereafter.

In the interim, residents have had to travel to the Shawnigan Lake Post Office, located 16 kilometers away at 2741 Shawnigan Lake Rd. This facility operates Monday to Friday from 08:30 to 17:00 and Saturday from 08:30 to 12:30. Customers picking up their mail from Shawnigan are reminded to bring valid government-issued photo identification.

Canada Post has stated that they are committed to ensuring a smooth transition back to normal operations at the Malahat Post Office. As the reopening approaches, residents are encouraged to stay updated on any further developments regarding the post office’s services.
