Man Injured by Vehicle While Changing Tire on Highway 401

A man suffered serious injuries after being hit by a passing vehicle while changing a flat tire on Highway 401 in Cambridge, Ontario, early on September 24, 2025. The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. when the man, traveling eastbound, experienced a flat tire near Hespeler Road. He stopped on the sixth lane of the highway to address the issue.

According to Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Sgt. Kerry Schmidt, the driver exited his vehicle to change the tire on the driver’s side when he was struck by another vehicle that failed to stop. “This person was thrown to the ground and suffered serious injuries,” Schmidt stated in a video shared on social media. Fortunately, he is expected to make a full recovery.

Investigation Underway

The OPP is currently seeking witnesses to the incident. Sgt. Schmidt emphasized the unexpected nature of such events, noting, “It’s very unexpected that you would have a vehicle or a person standing in the live lane.” The police aim to gather information about the vehicle involved in the collision and to speak with the driver who left the scene.
