Ottawa’s Colt Bryson Crowned Athlete of the Week After Stellar Performances

Colt Bryson, a standout athlete on the Ottawa boys golf team, has been named The Times Athlete of the Week after receiving 96 out of 229 votes. His impressive performances contributed to the team’s eighth-place finish in the IHSA State Finals, showcasing his talent and dedication to the sport.
Bryson not only achieved individual accolades but also played a key role in the team’s success during the season. The previous week, he shared medalist honors in a dual match at Mendota. He later partnered with teammate Bryer Harris to set a new record for the lowest round at the Mendota Ryder Cup, leading the Pirates to a remarkable 6-under par score.
Team Success and Personal Insights
The Ottawa team recently concluded an undefeated regular season in match play, a feat Bryson attributes to the team’s strong depth and chemistry. “Having good depth throughout the team and good chemistry has made us successful,” he noted during a recent interview.
As the defending champions in Class 2A, Bryson acknowledged the pressure that comes with the title: “There is pressure no matter what, but we stay calm under the pressure.” His approach to the game emphasizes composure and teamwork, which has been vital for the Pirates as they navigate the competitive landscape of high school golf.
When asked about his favorite club, Bryson confidently stated that his putter is his strongest asset, owing to the extensive practice he dedicates to it. He shared his favorite golf courses, naming TPC Deere Run, Aurora Country Club, and Kishwaukee Country Club as top picks, highlighting his appreciation for diverse playing environments.
A Glimpse Beyond Golf
Despite his athletic achievements, Bryson’s personality shines through in his interests outside of golf. His favorite childhood cartoon was “SpongeBob SquarePants,” though he hasn’t watched it in over five years. He expressed a desire to see Drake perform live in Florida, citing the warm climate as a perfect backdrop for the concert.
If given the chance to celebrate with his team at a local restaurant, Bryson would choose Chick-fil-A, opting for chicken nuggets and waffle fries. Reflecting on his childhood, he mentioned that while he never had a favorite Halloween costume, Reese’s candies were always at the top of his list.
Interestingly, Bryson noted a unique physical trait that might surprise those who only know him through sports: his left ring finger is noticeably shorter than his right. Looking ahead, he plans to attend a four-year college after high school and aims to continue playing golf, furthering his passion for the sport.
Colt Bryson’s journey illustrates not only his talent on the golf course but also his character off it, making him a deserving recipient of this week’s recognition. His accomplishments serve as an inspiration to young athletes in the Ottawa community and beyond.
