Peachland Family Acquires New Home Through Habitat for Humanity

A family from Peachland has officially become homeowners, thanks to the efforts of Habitat for Humanity. The organization facilitated this achievement through its affordable homeownership program, effectively providing a much-needed residence for the family.
In a unique approach, another family previously partnered with Habitat for Humanity opted to sell their home back to the charity. This buy-back model allows families who have built equity in their homes and qualified for traditional mortgages to transition to independent homeownership while ensuring that the property remains accessible to those in need. According to Andrea Manifold, CEO of Habitat for Humanity Okanagan, this model exemplifies the long-lasting impact of their initiatives.
Manifold highlighted, “This is a powerful example of how our unique home ownership model creates long-term impact. When a family transitions to a home outside of the program, we exercise the option to buy back the home and reinvest in another family’s future. It’s a sustainable way to keep affordable housing in reach for those who need it most.”
The new homeowners expressed their gratitude during the official key ceremony, emphasizing how this opportunity will significantly benefit their daughter and future siblings. “It’s the piece that our family was missing,” they shared, underlining the emotional and practical importance of having a stable home environment.
The transition of this property back to Habitat for Humanity not only represents a personal victory for the new homeowners but also reinforces the organization’s commitment to fostering sustainable communities. The program aims to create pathways for families to achieve homeownership while ensuring that affordable housing remains available for others.
