Planned Roadwork Causes Highway Closures in Waterloo Area

Motorists in the Waterloo region should prepare for significant traffic disruptions due to scheduled roadwork on provincial highways. Three major closures are set to take place on September 30, 2025, impacting travel in and around the area.
The first closure will affect Highway 8 eastbound, specifically between Sportsworld Drive and the Highway 401 interchange in Kitchener. One right lane will be closed starting at 20:00 on September 30 and will remain closed until 05:00 on October 1. This closure is expected to create delays, especially during peak travel hours.
Additionally, Highway 7 eastbound will experience lane restrictions between Ottawa Street in Kitchener and the Highway 7/8 interchange leading into Stratford. One left lane will be closed from 19:00 on September 29 until 06:00 on October 3. This extended closure aims to accommodate necessary maintenance, but it may result in heavy congestion during the days it is in effect.
Another notable restriction will occur on Highway 24 southbound, between Waynco Road in Cambridge. One right lane will be closed for repairs on October 1 from 07:00 to 17:00. Drivers using this route are advised to seek alternative paths to avoid potential delays.
As roadwork continues to be a critical aspect of maintaining infrastructure, officials encourage all motorists to plan their routes in advance and allow for extra travel time. Keeping informed about these closures is essential for reducing congestion and improving safety on the roads.
For ongoing updates regarding road conditions and potential delays, travelers are advised to monitor local traffic reports and government announcements.
