Police Pursue Suspects After Officer Discharges Firearm in Fairview

Last night, an incident involving a police officer and a vehicle escalated in Fairview, prompting an investigation and a search for suspects. The Halifax Regional Police (HRP) reported that one of its officers discharged their firearm after a vehicle accelerated toward them during an attempted traffic stop.

Around 19:00 on March 11, 2024, two officers were positioned outside their vehicle on Main Avenue when they attempted to stop a car for erratic driving. The driver, however, accelerated toward one of the officers, prompting a quick response. The officer drew their firearm and shot at the side of the vehicle twice as it sped away. Fortunately, no officers were injured during the incident, and it remains unclear whether anyone in the vehicle sustained injuries.

Shortly after the incident, four individuals were mistakenly arrested near Joseph Howe Drive but were released once police determined they were not connected to the vehicle in question. The search for the car involved in the shooting continues, with authorities identifying it as a black Nissan Sentra featuring tinted rear windows.

The driver is described as a man of either white or light-skinned black descent, with black hair and a beard. In light of the events, HRP has referred the case to the Serious Incident Response Team, the oversight body responsible for investigating such occurrences involving police.
